GIS goes Rock n Roll

8 07 2011

GIS (Geographical Information Systems) is one of the buzz terms in geography at the moment and we are always trying at the Blencathra Centre to integrate new and exciting ways to use IT and GIS in our fieldwork. One of the challenges facing us is the fact that the generation now studying for their GCSE’s and A-levels have grown up in a world where CGI films, broadband internet and smart phones are part of everyday life, and they often are way ahead of those teaching them in terms of IT know how. This makes them particularly hard to impress!

So imagine my joy when I was sent a link from my sister, who is more at home on stage singing in a band, than standing on the side of a mountain measuring river velocity or determining the impact of a flooding event. But the world of rock n’ roll and GIS have collided. Check out this link just enter your postcode or the postcode of where you grew up, for it to work at its best close all other window and programs.
